The Voter's Guide for BC
The Family Life Committee, an ad hoc, non-partisan group that promotes family and life issues and includes representatives of Campaign Life Coalition BC, BC Parents and Teachers for Life, and REAL Women of BC, has launched its Election 2005 Voter's Guide project to survey all candidates in the upcoming provincial election.
You can now visit the site at www.bcelection.org Please take a few minutes to print out the Candidate Questionnaire and cover letter. Mail, fax or, best of all, take them in person to the candidates in your riding and ask them to get the information back to the address on the bottom of the survey form itself. Encourage them to visit the site for more information or further clarification. "We think this guide will help British Columbians decide which candidates to support," said committee spokesperson John Hof.
This year's survey includes questions on family taxation, the age of medical consent, the administration of the proposed Universal Day Care program, and the regulation and de-funding of abortion in BC. "Our goal is to ensure that voters know where their candidates stand on issues that matter to our members," said Hof. "Most politicians and parties try to avoid these issues so that is why we focus on them in particular. Parties often have no policy or a 'Don't talk about this' policy when it comes to issues they want to avoid." Let's get them talking!
Don't worry if you are not the first person to bring in the survey to the candidates in your riding. As candidates see more voters wanting answers to these questions, the more attention they will pay to the survey. You will NOT be wasting your time.
Thank you for doing this as soon as possible, so the results can be posted on the website. Check the site regularly and go back to your candidate(s) if they haven't mailed their responses in. The survey results will be posted online this election rather than in the paper format which was used in other years.
We of the Family Life Committee can't do this on our own. Thanks for your help in getting the survey questionnaires to the candidates, and for telling others about www.bcelection.org where they can get information on what their candidate of choice believes! |
