How your Membership works Thank you for your prompt renewals and notes of encouragement. Many members ask "Why does my expiry date still say 2004 even though I renewed in December?" Whether you renew with National REAL Women or the BC Chapter, the process is the same. When you send your renewal to the BC Chapter, it goes to our PO Box in Vancouver where our volunteer Mail Liaison picks up the mail on a weekly basis. She then forwards the information to the appropriate board member. The Membership Secretary receives your renewals usually once a month. She then puts changes into her computer and the information in a file to be sent to national. Once a month the renewals, deletions and address changes are sent to the Ottawa office for input. In between this process of mailing back and forth we also put out newsletters in BC and from Ottawa. If your membership renewal happens to arrive after one of these publications, then you won’t see your change for at least 2-4 months, until the next newsletter. This also explains why you may have different expiration dates on your newsletters. We have also been asked it if is better to renew with National REAL Women or with the BC Chapter. There really is no difference in mailing your renewal to either group. Your membership is nationally and provincially valid and you will receive all publications from both groups. There is a difference though with donations. If you want BC to receive your generous gift, it needs to go to the BC Chapter address in Vancouver. If you want the National to receive a donation, that needs to be sent to Ottawa or marked clearly if you send a renewal to the BC Chapter and include a donation for the National. We do not share donations unless they are clearly marked as to where the money should go. As we neither seek nor receive government funding, we depend on your generosity.
