Postmortem

Bill C-291 died in May 2006. It was drafted in response to the violent deaths of two pregnant Edmonton women and their pre-born children. In both cases, the deliberately murdered babies were ignored by the courts and treated as non-entities during sentencing. The mother of one of the murdered women, traveling from Alberta to Ottawa to speak to the justice committee, was denied the opportunity to be a witness and show a photo of her late daughter and grandson.

A freedom of information inquiry by the National Post revealed that Justice Minister Vic Toews was warned in an unsigned briefing note from government bureaucrats that any changes to the definition of a human being in the Criminal Code could have the affect of criminalizing abortion...The government has no plans to propose any reforms in this area of law. National Post journalist Peter O'Neill links the latter sentence to Harper's January l7 statement I'll use whatever influence I have in parliament to be sure that such a matter doesn't come to a vote.

Currently there is no law regulating abortion in Canada. Therefore, a woman may abort a child right up to the minute before the baby is born. The Conservative government obviously does not want to change this and today in Canada we still have open season on the unborn. Does this make sense considering that If you interfere with the unhatched off-spring of eagles you will get prosecuted to the full extend of the law?
