“A Nation Which Kills its Children is a Nation without a Future” These are the words of Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, Roman Giertych. The Polish government has been under attack from the European Union regarding such issues as abortion and homosexuality. At an informal meeting of European education ministers last week, Giertych told reporters that “Europe needs changes” and that abortion should be banned immediately. He was equally blunt when he referred to the homosexual propaganda that was flooding Europe as “unwise political correctness.” He further stated that “homosexual propaganda must also be limited so children will have the correct view of the family.” Giertych considers abortion “a new form of barbarism,” and warns that the Christian-based culture of Europe is dying. He states that “a continent which kills its children will be settled by people who do not kill theirs.” Predictably, the media was outraged and compared Giertych’s comments to Nazi propagandists. Giertych’s comments were reflected in the remarks made by Polish President Lech Kaczynksi in Ireland earlier in the month. He was ridiculed and called a homophobe. However, President Kaczynski stated that a large scale promotion of the homosexual lifestyle would ensure the disappearance of the human race. The Polish government has been very supporting regarding pro-family and pro-life matters and is fully supporting the World Congress of Families that is taking place in Warsaw, Poland, from May 11-13, 2007. REAL Women of Canada is a sponsor of the Congress and several board members will be attending the event. The last World Congress of the Family took place in Mexico City where 3000 people from over 60 countries participated.
